Turnkey Electronics Development

Teams that need to move from product requirements through to prototypes, pilot builds, and manufacturing handover, with engineering responsibility carried by one party.

What you are buying

Design, prototype, validation, pilot, and handover deliverables as agreed in the statement of work.

What this is

An engineering delivery engagement with staged gates. Each stage produces something you can inspect and accept before the next one starts.

When it fits

  • A product requirement that needs to become a manufacturable design.
  • A prototype that is stuck on size, stability, BOM, test, or manufacturing handover.
  • A design that needs to be taken over from another party and brought to a defined state.
  • A team that needs a documented deliverable to hand to an internal or partner engineering group.

How scope is set

The requirement baseline, exclusions, decision-maker, and acceptance criteria are agreed in writing before design work starts. Changes are priced and confirmed for impact before they enter the scope rather than absorbed quietly.

What is agreed separately

Mechanical and enclosure work, industrial design, tooling, app or cloud development, formal certification, third-party laboratories, shipping and duties, import responsibility, additional revisions, production fixtures, and after-sales support. Firmware, RF, power safety, security, special environments, and safety-critical functions are assessed according to capability and specialist partner arrangements.

What you get

  • Requirement baseline, interface and constraint definition, and a test plan
  • Schematic, PCB, BOM, design review records, and manufacturing requirements
  • An agreed quantity of prototypes, with firmware or interface integration where included
  • Engineering validation against agreed conditions, with a revision record
  • Pilot preparation: programming and test flow, fixture requirements, defect handling
  • Handover of agreed design source files, revisions, BOM, manufacturing and test documentation

Process

  1. Requirements and feasibility, ending in a confirmed requirement baseline
  2. Circuit and PCB design, ending in a design review and board release approval
  3. Prototype and integration, ending in confirmation of functional test results and known limits
  4. Engineering validation, ending in pass against agreed conditions or written acceptance of exceptions
  5. Pilot preparation, ending in first-article and pilot results with approval to proceed or rework
  6. Delivery and transfer, ending in checklist acceptance and confirmation of maintenance responsibility

Delivery stages

Stages are not identical for every project. The table below is an adjustable contractual framework.

Delivery stages
Stage Main deliverables Client confirmation / stage gate
Requirements and feasibility Function list, interface, size and power constraints, architecture, risks, preliminary test plan Requirement baseline, exclusions, and named decision-maker confirmed
Circuit and PCB Schematic, PCB, BOM, design review, manufacturing requirements Design review and board release approval for the specified revision
Prototype and integration Agreed quantity of prototypes, firmware or interface integration where included, issue records Functional test results and known limitations confirmed
Engineering validation Agreed functional, power, and communications tests, with revision records Pass against agreed conditions, or written acceptance of exceptions
Pilot preparation Programming and test flow, fixture requirements, pilot data, defect handling First-article and pilot results confirmed; approval to produce or rework
Delivery and transfer Prototypes or batch units, agreed design source files, revisions, BOM, manufacturing and test documentation Checklist acceptance and confirmation of maintenance and follow-up responsibility

Gerber, BOM, and CPL/coordinate files are important for PCB/SMT manufacturing handover, but they are not equivalent to full product validation or proof of regulatory compliance.
